Workstation support teams may find themselves needing to remove the CRM add-in from Outlook and re-adding it. This was a popular troubleshooting routine for v3.0, but I've rarely (if at all) had to do this for v4.0 Nonetheless, I usually forget how to add/remove the add-in and I've never easily been able to find a quick how-to guide on doing it (my google skills may be lacking, though). I'm going to outline the steps to remove, then add the CRM Outlook add-in for both v3.0 and v4.0 in Outlook 2003 and also Outlook 2007.
Outlook 2003
For Outlook 2003, select Options from the Tools menu. On the Other tab, click the Advanced Options... button:
This will display the Advanced Options window:
Select COM Add-ins to display the COM Add-in manager:
- To remove an add-in, select the desired add-in and click Remove.
- To manually add an add-in, click Add... and browse to the desired location.
- For Microsoft CRM, the add-in is located in the CRM Program Files directory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Client\bin\crmaddin.dll
Outlook 2007
Managing add-ins in Outlook 2007 is done through the Trust Center. To open the Trust Center in Outlook, select Trust Center... from the Tools menu. This will bring up the Trust Center. Select Add-Ins from the left navigation pane and a list of currently installed add-ins is displayed:
To add or remove an add-in, at the bottom of the Trust Center, select COM Add-ins from the Manage drop down menu and click Go... This will bring up the COM Add-ins manager:
- To remove an add-in, select the desired add-in and click Remove.
- To manually add an add-in, click Add... and browse to the desired location.
- For Microsoft CRM, the add-in is located in the CRM Program Files directory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Client\bin\crmaddin.dll
really nice article. Thanks.
