Spinning Green Wheel When Opening Notes in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0
If you are a heavy user of Notes in Microsoft CRM 4.0, you may have noticed that sometimes when you open a record and click on the Notes tab, you will see the spinning Windows wheel (in Vista, that is), and the form hangs.
Here are several things that you can do to address this issue:
- If you get the spinning wheel, hit F5 to refresh the form.
- When you open a record, such as an account, wait a second or two before you click on tabs, such as the notes tab. This seems to reduce or eliminate the occurrences of this issue.
- Contact Microsoft Support if you see this happen frequently. They have just released a hotfix that may fix it for you: Call support and request KB 951174

any idea what's causing it? what the underlying issue is?

The issue described in this post was fixed in one of the early update rollups for CRM 4. It is no longer an issue.
